Replacing a 1993 Toyota Camry starter relay will take only minutes of your time.

The relays in the 1993 Toyota Camry contain no serviceable parts. What this means is, you won't actually repair a relay, you'll replace it. There are three different locations where fuses and relays are housed on the 1993 Camry: one in the engine compartment, one behind the front passenger kick panel and one under the instrument panel. The 1993 Camry's starter relay is in the engine compartment. Replacing it is as simple as unplugging the old one and plugging in the new one.

      Open the engine compartment of your car and disconnect the negative battery cable clamp from the negative post using a wrench to loosen the clamp retainer bolt.

      Locate the relay box in the engine compartment. You can find it on the passenger side fender well.

      Unsnap the relay box cover from the car and pull it away from the relay box. On the inside of the cover is a diagram showing which relay and fuse is which. Locate the starter relay and unplug it from the box by pulling it straight up.

      Plug the new relay in and push it firmly to make sure it seats flush in the relay box. Replace the cover on the relay box and snap it into place. Reconnect the negative battery terminal and test the installation by starting the car.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never attempt this procedure without disconnecting the negative battery terminal as instructed or you will put yourself at risk of electrical shock.
