How to Replace a Toyota Tundra Rear Bumper
Replacing the rear bumper on your Toyota Tundra pickup with a stock or aftermarket bumper allows you to improve the function or appearance of your truck. If your bumper is damaged or you want something different on your truck, you can remove the stock unit and slide a new bumper into place. The bumper is attached to the frame under the rear of the truck with standard bolts that can be removed with relative ease. It will only take a few minutes in the driveway to complete the swap.

Instructions
things you'll need:
- Metric socket set
- Metric wrench set
- Torque wrench
- A helper

- 1
Locate the wiring that runs from the truck body to the rear license plate lights in the center of the stock bumper. Follow the wires down to the wiring harness connector at the lights. Disconnect it from the the lights and set the harness aside.
- 2
Locate the bumper mounting bolts under the rear of the truck on the rear most portion of the frame. There are five bolts in the rear bumper arm that mounts to the frame, but only the three front bolts secure the bumper to the frame.
- 3
Remove the three front bolts on each rear bumper arm using a socket and ratchet or wrench. The bumper will be free from the frame at this point so be sure to have a helper hold it or support it with something so it does not fall.
- 4
Slide the bumper off the frame and set it on the ground. Use your socket and ratchet to remove the last two bolts on the bumper arms and remove the arms from the bumper.
- 5
Transfer the bumper arms to the new bumper and secure them with the bolts. Tighten them with a socket and ratchet, then torque them to 59 foot-pounds with a torque wrench.
- 6
Install the new rear bumper onto the frame and align the bumper arms with the holes in the frame. Install the bumper arm mounting bolts and tighten until snug. Torque the bolts to 59 foot-pounds with a torque wrench to secure the bumper.
- 7
Connect the wiring harness to the license plate lights in the rear bumper. Push the connector in until the retaining clip locks in place.
