How to Use a Factory Toyota Amplifier
Depending on the year and model Toyota, the vehicle's amplifier will have different specifications. However all amplifiers have some common features. The amplifier is usually housed in the trunk of the car or under the seats. The power produced by the amplifier is measured in watts and should match the power requirements of the speakers.

Locate and inspect the amplifier. Look for indicator's (usually on the back) of the amplifier's specifications. The two most important numbers to look for are the watts and channels. These can be displayed as 500x2, or 500 watts by two channels, which means 250 watts a channel. This will determine what can be done with the amplifier.
- 2
Locate the instrument panel on the amplifier. This will be where all the connections to the amplifier are. The power connections (to the battery), the connections to the speakers and also options for the user to customize the amplifier. Most amplifiers will have a "Gain" and "Crossover" function. The gain will increase or decrease the volume on the speakers. The crossover will adjust the frequencies that are played from the speaker. For example, adjusting to levels below 300 Hz will have the speakers only play bass frequencies.

Replace factory speakers. If you wish to upgrade the factory Toyota speaker but keep the factory amplifier, some adjustments need to be made. Locate the "Audio Out" ports on the amp and disconnect the speaker wires from them. Remember which wire goes to what speaker in the car. Replace the factory speakers and run the new speaker wires to the amplifier. Connect the positive and negative wires to the positive and negative connections on the amplifier.
